Frequently Asked Questions

Please consult the following Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) to find an answer to your query. If the responses below do not answer your question, please reach out to us via the contact page.

How much does it cost to join the program?

9,000 HKD for HKU non-business school students; HKU Business School students will be subsidised but will need to pay for the air ticket and meals-lunches + pocket money; other costs will be covered by the faculty (accommodation and local transportation from/to the airport).

Are postgraduate students eligible to join?

No, the course is available to undergraduate students only.

Can exchange students attend if they are staying/arriving in HK during the summer?

No, this is not related to when the student is staying at HKU, but due to the budget that the university is providing to run the program and therefore it is only available to the full-time HKU students.

Can students from other universities join if they are willing to self-fund the trip?

Unfortunately, that is not possible.

Are the 6 credits considered in the Sem 2 of the current Academic Year or Sem 1 of the following Academic Year?

The credits are to be counted in the Summer Semester of the current academic year. Each Academic Year is composed of Sem 1 (Fall), Sem 2 (Spring), and the Summer Semester. Example: if you are taking TBI in summer 2026, the credits will be counted towards the Academic Year 2025-2026.

Do I need a Visa?

Please check the requirements for your country - you will be responsible for your own visa arrangements. The HKU Business School can provide supporting documents for you to make a visa application if required. Check the supporting documents needed with the embassy/consulate, and inquire with the faculty to prepare and collect these ahead of time.

Is there a date for when the application will open?

The application opens annually towards the end of the Fall Semester. Students will be notified via mass email. If you registered your interest in the course via the form either on the website or through one of the mass emails, you will receive an email notification when the registration opens.

If I’m a final-year student this academic year and I decided to defer my semester until Fall 2026, am I eligible to join this course?

Yes, you can still join if you deferred your studies by one semester.

How can I register to the course?

Upon submission of your application, you will be notified of a briefing session or group interviews. You should join either of these sessions to learn more about the course. If the session(s) took place before you submitted your application, you may be asked to connect with the course instructor(s) to assess your suitability for the course.

Those who attend the briefing session/group interview will receive a registration link to confirm their participation in the course. After the registration form is submitted, students will be asked to settle a deposit of 2,500 HKD. Placement in the course will be guaranteed only for students who make the deposit.

Please note that the placement in the course is offered on a first-come first first-served basis, and those who pay the deposit earlier will be given preference. The deposit will be reimbursed to all students who complete the course.

Those who withdraw their participation after the deposit settlement, the deposit amount will be forfeited and those who withdraw after the enrollment in SIS is completed (typically after Reading Week), will also receive an "F" grade.

Those who registered after the quota (25 students) is filled will be placed on a waitlist and informed accordingly. If any spots open up, they will be invited to join and settle the deposit to confirm their spot.

Are the grades counting towards GPA?

Yes.
